“If you were given a New Yorker cover job, what would you do?” That was the question my teacher posed to the class in an editorial illustration course.

 
 

Taxi Ride in the Rain

When visiting New York City as a young child, I always loved when it rained. I remember riding in a taxi at night when it was pouring.  Looking out the window, I thought the city lights were alive behind the swirling storm. I hoped to embrace that vivid memory with this cover design.


 
 

Grandfather’s Perspective

My grandfather lived in Manhattan and volunteered as a Citizen Pruner. A Citizen Pruner is a person who helps take care of the trees on the sidewalks of the city. My grandfather always treated trees as if they were magical beings. My goal was to embody his vision through this piece.
