Editorial Work

This collection of work includes college projects revolving around illustration opportunities in the editorial industry.

Legendary RBG 2021

For this project, I had to pick a New York Times op-ed article and create an accompanying illustration. I chose an article about the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and the ramifications of her open seat on the Supreme Court and beyond.

Exhausted Shoes 2021

Another editorial-related assignment added the element of movement. I chose an article examining how the COVID-19 pandemic changed the perspective of the simple act of taking a walk. Before the outbreak, walks were a means of reducing stress. During the spikes of the virus, walking evolved into a way to escape the confines of extended quarantine. My goal was to highlight this shift though the “eyes” of worn, “tired” sneakers begging for a break.

Josephine Baker 2021

I produced a cover for Bravery Magazine, a children’s periodical that shared activities and educational stories centered on women role-models. I chose to highlight the iconic Josephine Baker, an American-born French entertainer who doubled as a spy for the Resistance during World War II and who later became an activist for civil and women’s rights.

Spot Illustrations 2021

For another assignment, I created a series of spot illustrations for an imaginary magazine. The theme for these simple drawings was totally up to me. I chose animals, each playing musical instruments with a fanciful, comical touch.
